Nosara is a laid-back, unassuming town; showing your valuables will make you a target. Here are some basic suggestions to protect you and your possessions:
- Don’t leave anything in the car. Bring everything inside as soon as you get to your vacation rental or hotel.
- Don’t leave anything unattended when enjoying the beach. Although electronics and cash are the targets, sometimes they will take your sandals!
- Place all your valuables in the safe box. Do not leave any belongings visible from the outside. Hide anything that will be appealing to a robber.
- Keep your gate and doors locked. At night, leave the outside lights on.
- No matter how friendly a local or another tourist might be, never tell them where you are staying. Be cautious with strangers.
- If you are going out for dinner and have valuables, you might consider hiring a security guard for those hours. It might seem costly, but it is the most effective prevention for house break-ins.
- Don’t bring a lot of cash. Most places take credit cards, and you can prepay for the most expensive activities (lodging, transfers, surf lessons, etc.).
